Bilingualism
We firmly believe that bilingualism is an incredible asset for any child to have. This has been confirmed over and over again by thousands of academic studies. The environment, however, is key in achieving this. This is why we strictly follow the "One Person One Language" approach, where each member of the team only speaks their mother tongue to the children. We also advise parents to speak their mother tongue to their child (though we know it is easier said than done!). Research shows it promotes emotional closeness as well as bilingualism.
We ensure that all children are included and that everyone is able to take part in all activities. Children participate in two activities in English every week: drama and music. We also offer after-school clubs in French and English.
Each member of the team speaks their mother tongue to the children, i.e. French or English. We aim to achieve the best possible balance between the two languages. For example, children take part in two "circle times", one in English and one in French. The school library includes books and CDs in French and English.
Most of the children attending at L’Ecole du Parc are bilingual and even trilingual.
Finally, we communicate with parents both in French and English.
